Basking in the Sea Festival

Basking in the Sea Festival

Taking a well-deserved break from their work, fishermen and their
families from Kepulauan Seribu gathered on Pramuka island, one of
110 islands in the chain, to enjoy the 2002 Seribu Island Sea
Festival on July 21.

Pramuka island is the capital of Kepulauan Seribu regency,
which was officially established last year.

Wearing their best clothes, the islanders dedicated dances and
songs to honorary guests. The festival also saw jet ski races and
a colorful flotilla of modern and traditional boats.

With the majority of the fishermen living below the poverty
line, the festival provided the islanders an opportunity to
promote the charm and beauty of their home to potential tourists.
