Baselang Ka Umo: Preserving Jambi's Malay Rice Farming Tradition
Participants took part in a backwards rice-planting competition during the Baselang Ka Umo tradition preservation event in Olak Kemang, Danau Teluk, Jambi, on Saturday (13/6/2026). Approximately 700 participants representing 11 wards across the Danau Teluk and Pelayangan sub-districts joined the activity. The event was held to introduce the tradition of Baselang Ka Umo, a form of mutual cooperation in rice field activities, which is a custom of the Malay community of Jambi Kota Seberang that is increasingly being abandoned by the younger generation.
