Basarnas Vessel Catches Fire During Docking in Muara Baru, No Casualties Reported
A Basarnas vessel caught fire while undergoing maintenance at a shipyard in Muara Baru, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Wednesday evening. The vessel, KN SAR Ramawijaya 240, is the main ship operated by the Mentawai Search and Rescue Office.
A fire department official said the ship was docking at PT Proskuneo Kadarusman when the incident occurred. The head of the Jakarta Basarnas Office, Desiana Kartika Bahari, confirmed that the ship was undergoing its annual docking at the facility.
A total of 20 fire engines were deployed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to extinguish the flames, supported by rescue personnel from the Jakarta SAR Office’s Kepulauan Seribu post. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control and were carrying out cooling operations to prevent any new hotspots from emerging.
Desiana confirmed that there were no casualties among the crew monitoring the maintenance or the shipyard employees. The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be handed over to the police for further investigation.
