Basarnas Reveals Reason for Not Immediately Pulling Locomotive After KRL Collision in Bekasi
The locomotive of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train that collided with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi City, West Java, was evacuated separately from the carriages. Basarnas has revealed the reason why the locomotive was not pulled together with the carriages.
“I would like to state that at that time, there were indeed five victims still trapped,” said Basarnas Chief Marsdya M Syafii during a press conference in Bekasi on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
He said that immediately pulling the locomotive was estimated to pose risks to the victims. He stated that the victims received special handling so they could be saved.
“We had to carry out extrication activities so that the victims could be saved without causing further severe impacts,” he explained.
Previously, the evacuation process for the train accident victims had been completed. All evacuated victims were female.
“100 percent of the evacuated victims (were) women,” said Syafii.
He explained that the evacuation process was completed at 08:00 WIB earlier. All SAR teams have also been stood down.
The accident occurred on Monday (27/4) night. The total number of fatalities from the accident was 14 people. In addition, there were 84 people injured.
The accident happened when the KRL that was hit was stopped because another KRL was stuck on a taxi at the crossing at Bekasi Timur Station. The hard collision caused the women’s carriage at the rear to be torn and penetrated by the Argo Bromo Anggrek train.
