Basarnas intensifies medical evacuations after NTT earthquake

Basarnas Operations Director Yudhi Bramantyo said in a statement on Thursday that, based on the SAR team’s assessment as of Thursday afternoon, two disaster survivors had been evacuated because they required specialized medical care.

The SAR team evacuated an elderly resident who was ill in Ronting, East Manggarai District. The survivor had previously been staying at a self-managed shelter before being moved by officers to a centralized shelter, where medical personnel could continue to monitor their condition.

Meanwhile, another resident, a pregnant woman, was evacuated after experiencing trauma and psychological distress following a series of aftershocks, including one measuring magnitude 6.0.

The pregnant survivor was evacuated by the SAR team to a health post in Damer, Satar Padut Village, East Manggarai, to receive specialized medical care.

Bramantyo added that all SAR personnel in the field were on full alert and strengthening coordination with the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), local governments, and the Ministry of Health to ensure that residents requiring emergency assistance could receive prompt care amid the ongoing aftershocks.

In addition to East Manggarai, emergency response activities have also been carried out by SAR teams in several other affected districts, including West Manggarai, Ngada, and Nagekeo.

“We are focusing on search operations in affected areas, collecting data, and monitoring the condition of communities together with BPBDs and local governments, while also ensuring readiness for medical evacuations for residents who need them,” Bramantyo said.
