Basarnas Extends Search for Missing Journalists and Crew in Sunda Strait

Basarnas personnel continued the search for five journalists, two crew members, and one guide who lost contact in the waters of Carita, Pandeglang, Banten, on Monday (14/09/2026). Entering the seventh day of the operation, the whereabouts of the eight individuals, who departed using the speedboat Arupadhatu 1 to cover the volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau, remain unknown.

The joint SAR team has expanded the search area to 6,649 square nautical miles, deploying 18 ships and one helicopter. The search is being conducted via sea, air, and land routes, with particular focus on several sectors where previous findings were recorded.

Following an evaluation on the seventh day which yielded no results, the SAR operation has been decided to be extended for the next three days to maximise the search efforts and provide a greater opportunity for the victims to be found.
