Basarnas Confirms Five Journalists Lost Contact While Covering Mount Anak Krakatau Activity

The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Banten confirmed on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, that five journalists covering activity at Mount Anak Krakatau are currently out of contact.

As of now, the five journalists, along with a crew member, a ship captain, and a guide, have not been found. Rizky Dwianto, Head of the Operations and Readiness Sub-Section of Basarnas Banten, stated that the victims lost contact in the vicinity of the Sunda Strait.

“Up to this point, search efforts are still being carried out, but there have been no results yet,” he said.

According to the official release from Basarnas Banten, the search for the five journalists, the captain, one crew member, and one guide is being conducted in the waters of the Sunda Strait, Pandeglang Regency, Banten. The suspected coordinates for the incident are 06°14’40.52’’S 105°40’49.48
