MAKASSAR, Aktualita.co - Barru Regency has successfully broken into the top five of the investment project Executive Summaries in the South Sulawesi Investment Challenge (SSIC) 2026. This achievement was reached through an integrated shrimp processing industry project offered to potential investors.

Barru Regent Andi Ina Kartika Sari personally attended the final round of SSIC 2026 at the Baruga Phinisi Room, Bank Indonesia Representative Office for South Sulawesi Province, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Makassar, on Thursday (August 27, 2026).

The head of the region’s presence in the final session was part of the Barru Regency Government’s efforts to convince panelists regarding the project’s readiness, economic potential, and development opportunities.

Competing with Four Regencies

SSIC is an annual agenda initiated by the PINISI SULTAN Forum to identify and curate potential investment projects from regencies and cities in South Sulawesi.

A total of 22 Executive Summaries (ExSum) of regional investment projects participated in the selection process. From that number, five regencies were declared to have qualified for the final round.

In addition to Barru, the four other regions that made it into the top five are Jeneponto, Sidenreng Rappang, Sinjai, and North Toraja.

In the final round, regional heads along with technical regional apparatus presented their flagship investment projects through a pitching session before panelists and the assessment team.

Each region had to explain the project’s advantages, land and infrastructure readiness, market potential, business feasibility, as well as its economic benefits for the community and potential investors.

Offering an Integrated Shrimp Processing Industry

The project proposed by Barru Regency in SSIC 2026 is the development of an integrated shrimp processing industry.

The project is directed at increasing the added value of fishery commodities through processing, storage, distribution, and the development of a more structured supply chain.

The existence of processing facilities is expected to ensure that fishery products are not only marketed as raw materials. Products can be processed into commodities with higher economic value and possess the competitiveness to reach wider markets.

The industry also has the potential to open new job opportunities, strengthen community businesses in the fishery sector, and increase economic activity in Barru Regency.

Before entering the final round, the integrated shrimp processing industry project had gone through field verification stages and joint assessments with investment projects from other regions.

Expanding the Investor Network

The success of making it into the top five has become an opportunity for the Barru Regency Government to introduce its investment project to a network of investors, financial institutions, and business players.

The Barru Regency Government is striving to ensure that regional potential does not stop as a list of opportunities, but is developed into a project that has a clear business model, government support, and investment readiness.

The regional government also places investment as one of the instruments to drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve community welfare.

Through this forum, Barru can obtain direct input from panelists to refine the project concept before it is offered to investors.

SSIC Bridges Regions and the Business World

SSIC is designed as a bridge between regional governments and the business world. Participating regions are encouraged to compile investment projects that are concrete, feasible, competitive, and realizable.

The selection process does not only look at the magnitude of resource potential. Regulatory readiness, supporting infrastructure, markets, business risks, and the project’s benefits for the regional economy are also important parts of the assessment.

For Barru, the entry of the integrated shrimp processing industry project into the final round shows that the fishery sector has the opportunity to be developed into an added-value industrial activity.

The next stage is to ensure that the project has technical readiness and an attractive cooperation scheme so that it can obtain investment partners and be realized in Barru Regency.
