Barron Trump Targeted in Assassination Threat, US Secret Service Investigates
The US Secret Service is investigating a video containing threats against Barron Trump, the youngest son of President Donald Trump.
Secret Service spokesman Nate Herring said the agency was aware of the video’s existence and immediately launched an investigation because the material could be categorised as a threat against an individual under the agency’s protection.
He added that more detailed information regarding the investigation could not be disclosed to the public.
“For operational security reasons, we do not discuss matters relating to protective intelligence,” Herring said, as quoted on Wednesday (26/8/2026).
The video was broadcast over the weekend by Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Iran’s state-owned broadcaster, which is seen as aligned with hardline factions within the Iranian government. The head of the broadcaster is appointed directly by Iran’s Supreme Leader.
A federal law enforcement source told CNN that the video was part of a series of videos produced by Iran to target the Trump family and Trump himself. Some of the videos contain information about movements as well as suggestions on how to kill members of the president’s family.
The video shows a number of locations where Barron Trump is believed to be or could potentially be, with narration pointing towards an effort to kill him. At the end of the video, there is an indication of a reward of US$10 million for anyone who carries out the killing.
Threats against the Trump family from Iran are not new. The Iranian government and groups linked to Iran have openly issued threats against Trump and his family members since his first term as US President.
Trump himself has been one of the primary targets of Iran’s leadership since ordering the US airstrike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in early 2020.
Soleimani’s death subsequently became one of the most sensitive points in relations between Washington and Tehran. A number of sources have also previously mentioned that US security officials have paid particular attention to threats originating from Iran or its proxy groups, especially threats directed directly at Trump.
Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn said the matter was widely known and was not a hidden threat.
“I think it’s no secret, it has been reported in the media, that Iran has openly said they want to kill President Trump,” Quinn told reporters at an event last month.
