Bari takes gold at SEASA c'ships

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian women's sharpshooter Bari Agustini Said won gold in the air pistol individual event at the 25th Southeast Asian Shooting Association (SEASA) championships in Bangkok on Thursday.

Bari scored 473.6 points to topple Chinese Taipei Thien Yu San, who topped Bari in the qualifying round. Thien finished third with 470.5 points while Nguyen Tufan of Vietnam was second after collecting 469.9 points

The shooting training director, Benny J. Mamoto, said he was satisfied with the result, although he did not set any medal target in the championships.

"The championships will serve as a testing arena for shooters currently preparing for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, to enrich their experiences. We also want to spy our opponent's strength," he told Antara.

Indonesia earned two more bronzes from Erlinawati Chalid in the women's rifle prone event and Iriantoni in the men's rapid fire pistol event.

As of Thursday, host Thailand still dominated with eight golds followed by Vietnam with three golds and Malaysia with two golds.

Indonesia sent 10 shooters to compete in five events in the championships, which ended on Friday. (ivy)
