HANOI: "You can get a quarter of the price being offered," said a Liaison Officer (LO) by way of introducing shopping in Vietnam while driving The Jakarta Post from Hanoi International Airport to the Dong Do Hotel.

A group of Indonesian journalists, on their way back from covering the Criterium competition on Saturday, stopped at a street market and bought round-brimmed hats, apparently the kind donned by Viet Cong troops.

The hats were offered at 100,000 dong (approximately US$6.41) each. After some haggling, the price was agreed at 50,000 dong. They later found out that the hat could have been had at an even lower price.

"Someone told me it's normally 25,000 dong," a reporter from RRI said. -- JP
