Bareskrim Uncovers THC-Laced Sweets Circulation in Malang, One Arrested
The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police has thwarted the circulation of sweets containing the narcotic delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in Malang, East Java. Police also arrested a suspect named Abram Jetro Endiera.
The case began on Tuesday (18/8/2026), when the Sub-Directorate III of the Directorate of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim received information from Pasar Baru Customs regarding a suspicious package sent from the United Kingdom to Indonesia. The recipient of the package was recorded with the initials SH in Malang. Officers then inspected the package.
“The package contained three pouches of the AI brand, each containing 10 candy sweets. After laboratory testing by Customs, it was determined that the candy sweets contained a Class I narcotic of the delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol type,” said Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim, in his statement on Tuesday (25/8/2026).
On Wednesday (19/8), officers together with Pasar Baru Customs personnel travelled to Malang to carry out a controlled delivery of the package. On Sunday (23/8) at 20.00 WIB, it was discovered that the package recipient had paid the bill using a virtual account.
Police then coordinated with the Malang post office to dispatch the package. Together with a courier, police delivered the package to a house in Jatimulyo Sub-district, Lowokwaru District, Malang.
“The Sub-Directorate III team of the Directorate of Narcotics Crime together with the Pasar Baru Customs team arrested a man named Abram Jetro Endiera who had collected the package containing candy sweets with the Class I narcotic delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol from the Malang Post Office courier,” said Eko Hadi.
After interrogation, Abram confirmed that the package belonged to him. He had ordered the illicit goods through a website.
“(The suspect) had placed four orders for packages containing narcotics,” he continued.
The suspect had ordered one pouch containing 10 candy sweets suspected of containing THC on 4 March 2026. He then ordered one bar of chocolate suspected of containing THC on 31 March 2026.
Subsequently, the suspect ordered a candle-like liquid suspected of containing THC on 21 May 2026. Most recently, on 19 August 2026, the suspect ordered three packets of the AI brand, each containing 10 candy sweets suspected of containing THC.
“Based on the statement of Abram Jetro Endiera, all packages suspected of containing THC were intended for personal consumption,” explained Eko Hadi.
The evidence seized included one package containing three packets of candy sweets suspected of containing THC, 13 pieces of LSD chocolate suspected of containing THC, one iPhone 14 Pro, and one HP OMEN laptop.
“The total gross weight of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is 231 grams, with an economic value if circulated reaching Rp693,000,000. The evidence is estimated to be able to save around 115 lives from narcotics abuse,” said Eko Hadi.
For his actions, the suspect is charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Adjustments.
