Bareskrim Uncovers Smuggling of Narcotic Sweets from England
The Directorate of Narcotics Crime (Dittipidnarkoba) of Bareskrim Polri has successfully uncovered a new modus operandi for narcotics distribution in the form of sweets containing the Class I narcotic delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The illicit goods were smuggled from England into Indonesia.
Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, confirmed that his team had arrested a suspect with the initials AJE, aged 30.
“After laboratory checks were carried out by Customs and Excise, it was discovered that the sweets contained the Class I narcotic delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol,” said Eko in Jakarta on Wednesday (26/8).
The case came to light following a suspicious discovery by Pasar Baru Customs and Excise of a package sent from England via PT Pos Indonesia. The package, bearing a tracking number, was addressed to a recipient named Sally Hartanto with an address in Malang City, East Java. Upon inspection, the package contained three AI-branded packages, each containing 10 sweets.
Investigators then traced the delivery route to Malang City. On Monday (24/8/2026) at around 14.00 WIB, officers arrested AJE shortly after he collected the package from a courier.
“The results of the interrogation confirmed that the package sent from England to Indonesia under the recipient name Sally Hartanto, containing narcotic sweets, belonged to AJE and was ordered through a website,” Eko explained.
In his statement, AJE admitted to having ordered THC-containing processed products online on four occasions, including THC sweets, LSD chocolate suspected to contain THC, THC liquid, and the package of THC sweets that was ultimately seized by officers. All shipments consistently used the alias Sally Hartanto. The suspect claimed the illicit goods were imported for personal consumption.
From the suspect, police seized evidence including three packets of THC-containing sweets, 12 pieces of chocolate suspected to contain THC, one mobile phone, and one laptop. The total THC evidence seized reached a gross weight of 231 grams with an estimated economic value of Rp693 million.
Investigators are currently conducting in-depth examinations and comprehensive laboratory testing on all evidence.
For his actions, AJE is charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Adjustments.
