Bareskrim uncovers distribution of narcotic sweets from England
The Directorate of Narcotics Crime (Dittipidnarkoba) of Bareskrim Polri has uncovered the circulation of sweets containing the Class I narcotic delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) sent from England to Indonesia.
Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso said his team arrested a man with the initials AJE (30) in connection with the case.
The case came to light following information from the Pasar Baru Customs and Excise Office regarding a suspicious package sent from England to Indonesia using PT Pos Indonesia services, with the recipient named Sally Hartanto in Malang City, East Java.
Upon inspection, the package was found to contain three AI-branded packages, each containing 10 sweets.
“After laboratory testing by Customs and Excise, it was determined that the sweets contained Class I narcotics of the delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol type,” said Eko.
Investigators then traced the package delivery to Malang City. On Monday (24/8), investigators arrested AJE at around 2:00 p.m. local time after he collected the package from a courier.
“The interrogation confirmed that the package sent from England to Indonesia under the recipient name Sally Hartanto, containing narcotic sweets, belonged to AJE, who ordered it through a website,” Eko revealed.
AJE admitted to investigators that he had ordered suspected narcotic items four times, including sweets suspected of containing THC, LSD chocolate suspected of containing THC, liquid suspected of containing THC, and the THC-containing sweets uncovered by investigators.
“All packages were sent under the recipient name Sally Hartanto,” said Eko.
AJE also admitted that the THC-containing sweets were ordered for personal consumption.
In the operation, police seized three packets of THC-containing sweets, 12 chocolates suspected of containing THC, one mobile phone, and one laptop.
The total THC seized has a gross weight of 231 grams with an estimated economic value of Rp693 million.
Investigators are currently examining AJE further and conducting laboratory tests on the seized evidence.
AJE is charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Adjustments.
