Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Directorate of Narcotics Crime (Dittipidnarkoba) of the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) has uncovered a case of alleged drug trafficking at a nightlife venue known as New Zone in Medan, North Sumatra. Brigadier General Pol. Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics Crime (Dirtipidnarkoba) of Bareskrim, said a joint team from Sub-Directorate IV and the Narcotics Investigation Center (NIC) Task Force carried out a raid at the THM on Saturday at 03:25 WIB. “Several narcotic evidence items were seized from the scene of the incident (TKP),” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday. In addition to the evidence, investigators also detained 34 people comprising owners, managers, staff, adult patrons, and minors. “For the 34 people detained, urine tests have been conducted and some were found to be positive for drug use,” he said. For the next steps, those detained were brought to the Bareskrim Building, Jakarta for further examinations. Regarding details of the case, he said they would be disclosed after the examinations are complete. “A full release will be provided subsequently after the examinations are finished,” he added. It is known that the New Zone THM had previously faced a drug trafficking case. In 2014, an ecstasy dealer was arrested while marketing the illegal drug at New Zone.
