Bareskrim Uncovers 12 Kg of Cannabis Smuggled in Children's Clothing Packages

The Directorate of Drug Crimes (Dittipidnarkoba) of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) has uncovered a drug trafficking operation involving a truck travelling from Lampung to Lombok. A total of 12,135 grammes of cannabis, hidden inside packages of children’s clothing, were seized.

The case began on Monday, 27 July 2026, at around 01.15 Western Indonesian Time, when a joint team conducted an inspection on a truck at the entrance to Bakauheni Port in South Lampung. During the search, officers found a cardboard package suspected of containing narcotics.

‘The package was suspected to contain approximately 10 bundles of Class I narcotics, specifically cannabis, along with children’s clothing, with a total weight of 12,135 grammes,’ stated Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Drug Crimes at Bareskrim, on Monday, 10 August 2026.

Police then escorted the truck to the Baraka Express warehouse in Cipayung, East Jakarta. A check of the shipping receipt revealed the sender was listed as ‘John’ from Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, and the recipient was ‘Megi Homestay’ on Jalan Pariwisata, Central Lombok, NTB. On Monday, 27 July 2026, the joint team coordinated with the shipping company to identify the intended recipient of the cannabis package.

Following this coordination, the package was sent to its destination address in Mandalika, Lombok, NTB, while officers waited for the recipient to collect it. On Friday, 31 July, police coordinated with the branch manager to contact the recipient, Megi. The recipient responded by asking whether the package could be delivered or picked up. The branch manager replied via WhatsApp, suggesting the recipient pick it up as the delivery vehicle had already departed, and reminded them to bring identification matching the recipient’s name.

On Saturday, 1 August, officers received a WhatsApp message from the suspect, Megi, stating they could not pick up the package yet due to other activities. The team maintained close surveillance at the Baraka Express branch in Praya, but the target did not arrive. On Sunday, 2 August 2026, at 13.22 Central Indonesia Time, the team and Baraka Express Praya staff informed the target via WhatsApp that the package had to be collected within four days of arrival, or it would be returned.

By Monday, 3 August 2026, at 12.26 Central Indonesia Time, the package remained uncollected, prompting further coordination between officers and Baraka Express management. The following day, the team prepared for a delivery after the suspect requested the package be sent to the Mandalika Homestay address. An undercover officer accompanied the courier to the location. Based on WhatsApp conversations, the target then asked the courier to leave the package at a shop in front of Soeltan Homestay, but the shop owner refused to accept it.

‘On Wednesday, 5 August 2026, three personnel kept the cannabis package under close surveillance at the Baraka Express depot. The branch manager sent a WhatsApp message to the target stating that Wednesday was a holiday and the final collection deadline was Thursday morning. If not collected by 08.00 Central Indonesia Time, the package would be returned in accordance with company regulations,’ explained Brigadier General Eko.

On Thursday, 6 August 2026, following consolidation and coordination, the package was officially returned through the company’s standard return procedure. The evidence was subsequently taken to the Dittipidnarkoba Bareskrim office for further processing in accordance with applicable regulations.
