Bareskrim Transfers Reports Against Grace Natalie and Abu Janda to Polda Metro Jaya
The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police has transferred reports against Grace Natalie, activist Permadi Arya (Abu Janda), and Ade Armando to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya). The reports were filed by a number of community organisations (ormas) regarding the alleged editing of a video featuring a lecture by the 10th and 12th Vice President, Jusuf Kalla (JK).
“Oh, yesterday it was because there was already a previous report at Polda Metro Jaya, so we decided to consolidate them,” said Brigadier General Wira Satya Triputra, Director of General Crimes (Dirtipidum) at Bareskrim, at Al Azhar University in South Jakarta on Wednesday (24/6/2026).
Wira stated that Bareskrim will continue to provide technical assistance to investigators at Polda Metro Jaya. He explained the transfer was carried out to make the handling of the case more efficient. “We will still assist them, we will back up Polda Metro. This means that if the locus (place) and tempus (time) are the same, and the object of the case is also the same, we will unify the handling,” Wira clarified.
Previously, an alliance of 40 community organisations reported Grace Natalie and two others to Bareskrim. The report concerned the alleged editing of JK’s lecture at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Mosque some time ago. “The police report we filed against Ade Armando, Permadi Arya, and Grace Natalie has been received by the police, and we have obtained the police report receipt,” said Syaefullah Hamid, a representative of LBH Hidayatullah, to reporters at Bareskrim, South Jakarta, on Monday (4/5).
The report is registered under number LP/B/185/V/2026/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI, dated 4 May 2026. Gurun Arisastra from LBH Syarikat Islam explained the social media posts made by the reported individuals. He stated that Ade Armando uploaded the edited video clip on Cokro TV on 9 April 2026, followed by Permadi Arya on 12 April 2026, and Grace Natalie on 13 April 2026 on their respective social media accounts. According to him, Ade Armando and the others allegedly framed the content to suggest that JK was discussing Christian teachings regarding martyrdom.
He argued that if the full 40-minute lecture was watched, JK was actually explaining the psychological concerns of the community and correcting erroneous thinking about the concept of martyrdom. “Thus, Mr JK stated that this way of thinking about martyrdom is wrong, it is incorrect, you will all go to hell, not heaven. This was not conveyed to the public in its entirety. This statement was cut off,” said Gurun.
Grace Natalie has already spoken out. She believes there was no legal violation in her post. “As a good citizen, I am ready to be held accountable and I am optimistic that there is no legal violation there,” said Grace on Monday (11/5).
