Bareskrim: Ratio of Counterfeit Rupiah Circulation Declines in April 2026
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri) has revealed that the ratio of counterfeit money detections has declined up to April 2026. This was stated by Deputy Head of Bareskrim Polri, Nunung Syaifuddin, during a press conference on the Destruction of Counterfeit Rupiah from Bank Indonesia’s Verification, on Wednesday (13/5/2026). “The ratio of counterfeit money detections has decreased up to April 2026. The disclosures in the period from 2025 to 2026 involved 252 suspects out of 1,241 people, with 137,005 sheets of counterfeit rupiah notes,” Nunung explained. Based on these findings, Bareskrim Polri handed over the counterfeit money disclosures to Bank Indonesia. According to Nunung, this is part of transparency efforts to ensure that the uncovered counterfeit money does not circulate in society. Today, Bareskrim Polri handed over 466,535 sheets of counterfeit money to Bank Indonesia. This money was collected from disclosures since 2017 up to November 2025. This money can now be immediately destroyed in accordance with the decision from the Central Jakarta Court. “The Central Jakarta Court has granted permission to the Directorate of Special Economic Crimes (Dittipideksus) to destroy the evidence of counterfeit banknotes,” Nunung said. On this occasion, Nunung reminded the public that crimes involving the production and distribution of counterfeit money can result in serious punishments, namely imprisonment of up to 10 years. Even distributors can face imprisonment of up to 15 years.
