The Directorate of Special Economic Crimes (Dit Tipideksus) under Bareskrim of the Indonesian National Police has conducted raids on three companies in East Java regarding alleged criminal offences related to mineral and coal mining as well as money laundering.

Brigadier General of Police Ade Safri Simanjuntak, the Director of Dit Tipideksus Bareskrim, stated in Sidoarjo, East Java on Thursday that the raids were conducted in the Surabaya and Sidoarjo areas.

“Today’s raid at PT SJU’s office is a follow-up to previous raids conducted in Surabaya and Nganjuk Regency on 19–20 February 2026,” said Ade.

Ade explained that the raid is part of an investigation into activities involving the collection, utilisation, processing, refining, transportation, and sale of gold allegedly sourced from illegal mining operations between 2019 and 2025.

The case originated from a report based on analysis by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) regarding suspicious transactions in domestic gold trading.

According to Ade, these transactions are suspected to have been conducted by numerous gold shops and gold refining companies that traded gold to foreign markets using raw materials allegedly sourced from unlicensed mining operations. Gold was supplied from various regions including West Kalimantan, West Papua, and several other areas.

During the initial raids at five locations across East Java on 19–20 February 2026, specifically at two locations in Nganjuk Regency and three locations in Surabaya, investigators seized various pieces of evidence related to the gold trading activities. These included transaction documents such as invoices, purchase orders, delivery notes, purchase and sale receipts, and various electronic evidence.

Additionally, investigators seized gold jewellery weighing approximately 8.16 kilograms and gold bars weighing approximately 51.3 kilograms, estimated to be worth approximately Rp150 billion. Cash totalling Rp7.13 billion was also seized from one of the locations in Surabaya during the initial raids.

Following case examination on 27 February 2026, investigators have designated three individuals as suspects: TW, DW, and BSW. Investigators continue to develop the case to trace possible involvement of other parties, including through further raids on three gold refining and trading companies in Surabaya and Sidoarjo.
