Bareskrim Pursues Major Network Behind Pilot Carrying 70,000 Ecstasy Pills

The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police is continuing its efforts to dismantle a drug trafficking syndicate following a smuggling operation involving a pilot from Malaysia. Kombes Pol. Awaludin Amin, Head of Sub-directorate 2 of the Directorate of Narcotics Crimes, stated that authorities are working to track down the wider network. “Please pray that we, alongside Customs and other stakeholders, can quickly apprehend this syndicate,” Awaludin said during a press conference at Soekarno-Hatta Airport Customs on Friday (31/07/2026). He emphasised that the investigation will involve searching via land, sea, and air routes to locate the perpetrators. Previously, Bareskrim officially named the pilot as a suspect. “It has been clearly proven that the suspect committed a narcotics crime. Therefore, we have named MSO as a suspect,” Awaludin confirmed. Laboratory tests revealed the pilot was carrying 14 packets of MDMA (ecstasy) and one small packet containing 4 grams of methamphetamine (shabu-shabu). The smuggling operation by the Malaysian pilot was part of a larger syndicate responsible for smuggling a total of 70,114 ecstasy pills.
