The Narcotics Crime Directorate (Dittipidnarkoba) of Bareskrim Polri has arrested 34 individuals suspected of involvement in a narcotics trafficking case at the New Zone (NZ) nightclub in Medan, North Sumatra. Several of those detained are club management staff.

Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso of Bareskrim Polri’s Narcotics Crime Directorate stated that the management were aware of narcotics trafficking occurring at the venue but allegedly permitted and profited from the illegal trade.

“Evidence has emerged that free-flowing drug sales and transactions at the New Zone nightclub involved management,” Brigadier General Eko said in a statement on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

The raid took place in the early hours of Saturday, 23 May. A joint team from Subdirectorate IV, led by Commissioner Handik Zusen, and the NIC Task Force, headed by Commissioner Kevin Leleury, arrested several suspects, including club management.

The detained management staff included Josef Liopisa, alias Asiang (73), as HRD administrator; Anthony Wijaya, alias Aan (56), as operations manager; and Dudy as security public relations.

“Josef Liopisa, alias Asiang, as HRD administrator, monitored police raids and allowed narcotics trafficking at the venue. Anthony Wijaya, alias Aan, as operations manager, permitted the drug trade and profited from each pill sold,” Eko explained.

Eko said the investigation began with information about ecstasy and ketamine trafficking at New Zone. Officers then conducted a covert purchase via an intermediary.

Eko revealed the network operated in a highly organised manner. Patrons simply used specific codes to order drugs from waitstaff.

“Patrons were directed to empty halls or rooms, then called waiters to order drugs using codes such as ‘Obor’, ‘Obat’, or ‘O’, after which the waiters would ask for the quantity required,” Eko stated.

“The waiters would then deliver the drugs for payment. During the operation, police also detained Destri Ayu Lestari (38), a drug supplier, and Sherina Husnaini (29), an intermediary,” Eko added.

“During the raid, officers searched all areas, from Rooms 04 and 10 to VIP 08 and the Hall, securing a total of 34 individuals for further questioning,” Eko said.

“Two minors were apprehended during the raid,” Eko added.

In addition to investigating drug trafficking, Bareskrim suspects money laundering (TPPU). Police are now pursuing Eddy, alias Awi, suspected as the main controller of the drug trade at New Zone, and Ape, a drug supplier there.

“After further investigation into suspected money laundering, the joint team seized assets allegedly derived from TPPU,” Eko added.

Seized assets included three Toyota Raize, Toyota Rush, and Honda City vehicles, as well as five Honda Scoopy, Yamaha RX King, Honda Revo, and Kawasaki KLX motorcycles.

Police estimate that over six years, drug sales at the nightclub generated Rp65.7 billion, with an estimated 65,700 ecstasy pills distributed. The New Zone nightclub in Medan has now been sealed off by police.
