Bareskrim Hands Over Three Suspects in Etomidate-Laced Vape Trafficking to South Jakarta District Attorney's Office

The second stage, involving the surrender of the suspects and the evidentiary items, was carried out today at the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office, said Senior Commissioner Handik Zusen, head of Sub-Directorate IV of the Dittipidnarkoba, Bareskrim Polri, in a statement on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

The three suspects handed over to the prosecutors are Muhammad Rado Chanidra (18), Irfan Maulana (26), and Muhammad Baraza Despiana (23).

Handik explained that the interrogation of the suspects and examination of the evidence were conducted directly by the public prosecutors’ (JPU) team. He ensured that the entire handover process proceeded without any issues.

The handover included a number of evidentiary items seized from the suspects. Among them were several vape liquid cartridges of assorted flavours that had been mixed with etomidate.

In addition, there were several communications devices, including an iPhone 16, four ATM cards from various banks, and a black Honda Genio motorcycle. With the completion of Phase II, the three suspects will soon undergo trial.

Earlier reports stated that the Bareskrim Polri uncovered a case of circulating vape containing etomidate, or an anaesthetic drug, in the South Jakarta area. Three perpetrators were arrested in the case.

Director of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Directorate (Dirtipidnarkoba) of Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, said the operation was uncovered on Tuesday (20 January) by a team led by Sub-Directorate IV of Dittipidnarkoba, Bareskrim Polri, Senior Commissioner Handik Zusen. The team conducted an undercover purchase on Jalan Suryo, South Jakarta, after information about the sale of etomidate-containing vape.

“The team succeeded in securing two courier suspects, namely IM and MBD, along with evidence of two vape cartridges containing etomidate and two mobile phones,” Eko said in a statement, Thursday (5 February).

He said IM and MBD admitted obtaining the goods from MRC, who was at a hotel in Cilandak, South Jakarta. Police then arrested MRC.

After questioning, MRC reportedly admitted there were remaining items stored by IM at his house in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. Bareskrim personnel then found 15 vape cartridges containing etomidate.

IM and MBD are suspected of acting as couriers controlled by MR. They are believed to have been paid Rp 200,000 per delivery.
