The Directorate of Narcotics Crime (Dittipidnarkoba) of Bareskrim Polri, together with a joint team, successfully thwarted the smuggling of 20 kilograms of marijuana at Bakauheni Port, South Lampung. The illicit goods were destined for the Kampung Bahari area in North Jakarta. The operation was carried out by a joint team consisting of Sub-Directorate IV of Dittipidnarkoba Bareskrim Polri, the NIC Task Force, Densus 88 AT for the South Sumatra region, Baharkam Polri, the Lampung Regional Police’s Narcotics Directorate, and Customs and Excise on Saturday (25/7/2026) at 14:56 WIB. Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim Polri, explained that the arrest began with a routine inspection of vehicles entering the port. During the operation, the team, led by Senior Commissioner Handik Zusen and Senior Commissioner Kavin Leleury, arrested a courier named Gunter Asawijaya, also known as Aboy, aged 28. The joint team was inspecting a bus with the registration number BA-7243-NU at the entrance to Bakauheni Port when they discovered a black suitcase suspected of containing approximately 20 kilograms of marijuana. After the suitcase was found, the police immediately moved to secure its owner. The suspect, Gunter, admitted that he was carrying the marijuana to be stored and distributed in a known drug area in Jakarta. He stated the plan was to take it to Kampung Bahari in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, to be kept in a rented house and circulated in the region. Brigadier General Eko noted that Gunter was sitting at the very back of the bus, near the toilet. He panicked upon seeing the officers enter the bus and, out of fear, approached them before the search was complete, surrendering himself and asking to be arrested. Gunter then pointed out his black suitcase in the luggage compartment. When opened, it was found to contain 20 packages of dried marijuana ready for distribution. Gunter confessed that he obtained the drugs from a person named Ikhsan, also known as RD, in Panyabungan, North Sumatra. This was Gunter’s third transaction with Ikhsan. He was promised a ‘pay later’ system, where he would take the drugs first and pay Rp 5 million per kilogram only after selling them. Before arriving in Bakauheni, Gunter was picked up by a man named Rio in Panyabungan and taken to a hut to rest while the package was prepared. Ikhsan and Rio packed the 20 packages of dried marijuana into the black suitcase while Gunter watched. Both Ikhsan, the suspected owner of the marijuana fields and controller of the operation, and Rio, also a field owner, have been placed on the wanted list. Police seized 20 packages of marijuana and a Redmi mobile phone as evidence, with an estimated value of Rp 80,360,000. Authorities estimate the seizure has potentially saved 26,787 individuals from the dangers of marijuana abuse.
