Barcelona vs Atl: Hansi Flick Proud Despite Camp Nou Miracle Failing to Materialise

Barcelona coach Hans-Dieter ‘Hansi’ Flick hailed his players’ effort despite elimination from the Copa del Rey as Atletico Madrid progressed to the final on aggregate. In the second leg at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday (4 March 2026), Barça won 3-0, but could not overturn the 0-4 deficit from the first leg in Madrid.

Flick acknowledged the disappointment at not reaching the final in Seville, but said he was immensely proud of Lamine Yamal and the young squad members who performed at a high level. ‘Obviously I am sad we didn’t reach the target to go through to the final in Seville, but we can be very proud. We gave everything,’ he told the club’s official site.

The coach highlighted the quality of his players, noting the contribution from several La Masia graduates in a tense encounter. Marc Bernal scored twice (29 and 72 minutes) and Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin also contributed, while Raphinha struck in first-half stoppage time (45+5). Jan Oblak and Atletico’s defence remained largely impermeable after the break, preventing Barcelona from adding a fourth and forcing extra time.

The 3-0 win left Atletico Madrid advancing 4-3 on aggregate. For Atletico, this was their first Copa del Rey final since the 2012/2013 season, when they defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in the final.

Barcelona must now refocus on the La Liga title race and the Champions League to ensure the season 2025/2026 does not end without a trophy.
