The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) has announced efforts to deregulate 22 regulations deemed problematic and hindering trade exports in the fisheries, plant, and animal sectors, aiming to continuously increase export value. “We received a lot of valuable input from Apindo (the Indonesian Employers’ Association). Firstly, they asked us to shorten and streamline services so that they are fast,” said Head of Barantin Abdul Kadir Karding in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, after discussions with Apindo representatives, they identified a number of problems faced by exporters, especially in the fisheries, plant, and animal sectors. Karding stated that Barantin is therefore working to absorb these aspirations and simplify regulations so that exporters are no longer constrained when exporting their products. He noted that service discrepancies between regional areas and the capital city still cause obstacles due to misinterpretation of documents. “They hope for deregulation, and we are currently working on it. There are 22 head of agency regulations that we will deregulate for improvements; the goal is essentially the same: to build a good export and trade ecosystem,” he said. In addition to deregulating several regulations, Karding said Barantin will also build communication with relevant institutions or government bodies to establish a “single submission” and “single inspection” system, which will reduce the burden on exporters. “If our exports are not smooth, labour absorption will fall, our economic growth will decline, and our foreign exchange reserves will also drop,” he stated. To that end, he said Barantin will strive to simplify regulations to prevent overlap between one institution and another. “We want that once a product is declared satisfactory by one institution, it does not have to be rechecked from scratch because that would be time-consuming,” he added.
