Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) is ready to support the optimisation of durian export quality in Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi, through guidance in strengthening the supply chain from upstream to downstream.

“Creating a conducive environment is essential for a better durian export ecosystem, benefiting farmers, businesses, and the government,” said Barantin Chief Abdul Kadir Karding during a working visit to a packaging facility in Parigi Moutong on Thursday.

He stated that Barantin will assist durian farmers in obtaining Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification, a mandatory requirement for exports, particularly to China, to ensure food quality and safety standards.

GAP implementation covers cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest processes in line with export safety protocols, prompting farmers to register their plantations for certification.

He added that strengthening the national durian ecosystem is a priority for Barantin, involving the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government, as a strategy to optimise the quality of regional flagship commodities. Durian has become a national flagship product steadily expanding into global markets, while also serving as a new economic source for Central Sulawesi.

During the visit, he emphasised that if any Barantin officials hinder or demand bribes from farmers during GAP certification processes, the agency will take strict action.

“Parigi Moutong Regency is a key and strategic point in the durian export chain to China due to its full supply chain processes,” Karding said.

Barantin noted that quarantine-related export contributions to the regional economy are significant, with BPS data showing quarantine exports account for 7.31% of Central Sulawesi’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) export component in 2025.

Specifically, durian exports have contributed Rp304.4 billion to Central Sulawesi’s economy.

“The success of durian exports depends not only on high production but also on consistent quality and compliance with destination countries’ technical requirements,” he said.
