Barantin Responds to Legal Challenges for Balinese Salak Exports to Vietnam

Badung (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) has responded to challenges raised by snake fruit (salak) exporters in Bali regarding a government-to-government (G2G) protocol, or inter-country trade agreement, to ensure the legality of their shipments.

“They (the exporters) asked for cooperation with Vietnam to be opened, especially regarding that protocol agreement so it can be realised soon,” said Barantin Head Abdul Kadir Karding, speaking at the Bali Province Exporters Forum in Badung Regency, Bali, on Friday.

Abdul Kadir explained that given the high export demand for tropical fruit commodities, exporters need legal certainty.

However, he acknowledged that no G2G protocol exists at present, and Barantin therefore promised to form a special team to realise a mutual agreement that must be fulfilled by both Vietnam and Indonesia.

“This means the potential is actually quite good, and it is now just a matter of how we prepare these commodities so they can be accepted in the destination export country,” he said.
