Barantin releases Rp40.8 billion tropical commodity exports to China

The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), together with the Banten Provincial Government, has released exports of three flagship tropical commodities—mangosteen, crab and edible bird’s nest—worth more than Rp40.8 billion to the Chinese market.

Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), Abdul Kadir Karding, said the export of these tropical commodities was carried out through the ‘Merdeka Ekspor’ programme, with the aim of boosting the competitiveness of local products so they can penetrate the global market by meeting the quality standards set by destination countries.

“The form is the release of three export commodities, particularly to China, namely mangosteen, crab and edible bird’s nest,” Karding said after releasing the tropical commodity exports at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Friday.

He said the ‘Merdeka Ekspor’ activity, held to commemorate the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence, covers three tropical commodities from Indonesia that have very high demand in the international market.

“Downstreaming must proceed. For example, there is instant bird’s nest soup, and then bird’s nest minerals can be exported, which will certainly create more added value and employment,” he explained.

On that occasion, Karding also revealed that to support export growth, his agency has introduced a service model called the Export Clinic.

The measure is intended to assist Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as well as farmers who often face difficulties in meeting international standards.
