Barantin prepares assistance for prospective exporters in Palu through export clinic
The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) is preparing assistance for prospective exporters in Palu through an export clinic, quarantine certification, and fulfilment of sanitary and phytosanitary requirements to enhance the competitiveness of local businesses.
Barantin head Abdul Kadir Karding said the assistance is aimed at business actors, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), so they are better prepared to meet export requirements.
“For example, if an MSME wants to export, a company wants to export, and so on, we will educate them on what is likely needed to be export-ready,” Karding said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to him, the education also covers fulfilling commodity quality standards to match the requirements of destination countries and the needs of overseas buyers.
The programme is part of cooperation between Barantin and the Palu city government, marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding on synergy in implementing quarantine duties and functions to boost Palu’s economic growth.
Karding said the assistance for prospective exporters includes technical export guidance, dissemination of sanitary and phytosanitary requirements, quarantine certification assistance, and joint development of an export clinic.
Barantin and the Palu city government will also develop a commodity traceability system through supply chain recording and integration with the local government’s digital systems.
Strengthening traceability is needed to help ensure that traded commodities meet safety, health, and quality standards.
Karding said capacity building for business actors is also directed at strengthening quality and traceability so that products are competitive internationally.
“Through this memorandum of understanding, we hope to strengthen coordination and collaboration in supporting local business actors to be more ready to export, improve product quality, expand market access, and strengthen the competitiveness of Palu’s leading commodities,” he said.
In addition to assistance, Barantin will strengthen quarantine services through digital transformation, including certification services and integration of data with the local government.
“Besides that, we also want services to be faster, more efficient, and more transparent by working with Palu city, especially quarantine services,” Karding said.
He said digitalisation development will also relate to customs aspects through coordination with Customs and Excise so that services for business actors can be more integrated.
Barantin is also strengthening education on biosecurity and compliance with quarantine provisions to prevent the entry and spread of quarantine animal diseases, quarantine fish diseases, and quarantine plant pests.
Strengthening these standards is important given the role of MSMEs in the national economy.
The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in May 2026 recorded that MSMEs contribute around 61 percent to gross domestic product (GDP), absorb 97 percent of the workforce, account for 60 percent of national investment, and contribute 16 percent of non-oil and gas exports.
Based on Barantin data from January to 20 July 2026, the agency has provided 2,471,711 quarantine certification services for export, import, and domestic trade activities.
Of that number, 191,184 were export certification services with a total commodity value reaching Rp224.3 trillion.
Previously, Karding also stated that the structure of Indonesian business actors, many of whom are still small-scale, means that meeting international standards requires assistance and collaboration from various parties.
For MSMEs with limited production capacity or ability to meet standards independently, Barantin is also developing a consolidation approach so that business actors can be prepared to enter the export supply chain.
