Barantin guarantees levy-free service for exporters to boost competitiveness
The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) guarantees that all quarantine certification processes for exports will be fast, transparent, and free from any form of illegal levies (pungli) to boost the competitiveness of national products in the global market. Head of Barantin Abdul Kadir Karding stated in Bandung on Wednesday that this firm step follows the impressive performance of the export sector, which is one of the main engines driving the economy. In West Java, for example, exports have supported regional economic growth.
Based on BestTrust data, the accumulated export value from three quarantine sectors in West Java reached more than IDR 9 trillion. The largest contributor was the plant quarantine sector with a value of IDR 7.7 trillion, followed by the fish quarantine sector at IDR 1.29 trillion, and the animal quarantine sector at IDR 69.7 billion.
Karding emphasized that Barantin is transforming into an ‘economic tool’ that supports the acceleration of national exports through four main pillars: strengthening biosecurity, maintaining food security, facilitating trade, and expanding market access. To cut bureaucracy, the agency is accelerating the digital transformation of its integrated quarantine services, covering everything from inspections at the farmer level to laboratory testing and the issuance of export certificates.
Speaking at a gathering with 101 West Java exporter representatives, Karding urged business players to be open and report any obstacles or procedural irregularities directly. ‘Barantin is here to find solutions together, not to add problems. Our task is to ensure export commodities meet the requirements of destination countries while helping business players penetrate international markets more easily,’ he said. He closed the forum by reaffirming the institution’s commitment to providing professional, accountable, and clean services to support West Java’s leading products in competing internationally.
