The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) has stated that the downstream processing of coconut commodities in Gorontalo has successfully penetrated the European Union market through the export of 26 tonnes of desiccated coconut worth Rp1.2 billion to Germany. Barantin Head Abdul Kadir Karding said the export demonstrates the capability of regional businesses to meet the strict standards of international markets, including the European Union. “This is not merely ceremonial, but tangible proof that Gorontalo is ready to penetrate the world market while strengthening regional economic sovereignty,” Karding said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to him, the successful export of desiccated coconut is also in line with the government’s efforts to encourage downstream processing and industrialisation to increase the added value of domestic commodities. He said Barantin is committed to strengthening support for businesses through technical assistance so that Indonesian products can meet the various requirements of export destination countries. “We are committed to providing a red carpet for exports through technical assistance so that Indonesian products can meet international standards, including the strict standards of European Union countries,” he stated. Karding explained that Barantin’s services currently focus on four main pillars of certification: health, safety, quality compliance, and product traceability, supported by science-based inspection and service digitalisation. In addition to the export to Germany, Barantin also released Gorontalo’s leading commodities for the domestic market bound for Jakarta, namely 25 tonnes of corn worth Rp151 million and 16 tonnes of milkfish worth Rp224 million. Overall, the released commodities reached 67 tonnes with an economic value of approximately Rp1.575 billion. Meanwhile, Head of Gorontalo Quarantine Iswan Hariyanto said the success of desiccated coconut penetrating the German market shows that the quality of the region’s processed products has gained recognition from the international market. According to him, this achievement opens up opportunities to increase exports of Gorontalo’s leading products to the global market in the future. “Gorontalo Quarantine will continue to strengthen supervision while providing assistance to businesses so that export volumes continue to increase,” Iswan said. Based on Barantin data, the export performance of Gorontalo Province from January to May 2026 shows a positive trend. The export value was recorded at Rp643.72 billion, growing 10.76 percent compared to the same period the previous year. In terms of volume, Gorontalo’s exports increased by 21.55 percent to 149.50 million kilograms, with shipment frequency reaching 477 times. To maintain this positive trend, Barantin also held discussions with exporters and businesses in Gorontalo to absorb aspirations regarding barriers to international market access and the need for accelerated certification services. This effort is undertaken to support the increase in volume and value of the region’s leading commodity exports, while expanding the market for processed Indonesian products with higher added value.
