Barantin Ensures Optimal Quarantine Services in East Java

Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) Abdul Kadir Karding has ensured that quarantine inspection and action services in East Java are running optimally. During a visit to the Quarantine Service Unit at the Juanda International Airport Cargo Terminal in Sidoarjo on Sunday, Karding conducted a direct inspection to ensure quarantine services are effective, professional, fast, and compliant with statutory regulations. “Today I am in East Java to observe the service process, primarily to ensure that the performance needs for service and inspection in the field are met,” Karding said. He stated that quarantine inspection and action are the main functions that must be ensured to run well, so that the implementation of quarantine services and supervision at one of the entry and exit points for strategic commodity traffic in East Java proceeds smoothly. Karding noted that a number of quarantine service facilities and activities, ranging from the document inspection process, commodity inspection, supervision of carrier media, to coordination between officers and stakeholders in the Juanda International Airport cargo terminal area, are running well. Additionally, Karding stated that the East Java Integrated Quarantine Facility located in the Puspa Agro Sidoarjo area, which was inaugurated on Friday (8/5), is functioning quite well. He assured that the facility will undertake various optimisation efforts to be able to handle up to 1,000 to 2,000 containers per day, up from the current realisation of 670 containers per day. “We will fix issues in the field, such as electricity and equipment that must be promptly completed, to meet that target,” he said. Meanwhile, Acting Head of East Java Quarantine Hudiansyah Is Nursal said his party continues to strengthen supervision and services at all entry and exit points, including Juanda International Airport. Hudiansyah mentioned that synergy with airport management, relevant agencies, business actors, and the community is an important factor in realising an effective quarantine system. “It should be noted that the traffic of commodities, including animals, fish, and plants, at the Juanda Airport Service Unit is high. Therefore, service and supervision by officers need to be enhanced to support the quarantine business process running well,” he said.
