Barantin and BPJPH Integrate Data to Strengthen Export-Import Oversight

The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) and the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) are integrating data to strengthen oversight of export and import commodities while accelerating trade services. Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency Abdul Kadir Karding stated that the two institutions have signed a cooperation agreement to enhance supervision of products entering and leaving Indonesia, ensuring they meet health aspects and halal product assurance provisions according to their respective authorities. “Essentially, we want to protect the public in two ways. First, protection from health and halal aspects. Second, ensuring the export and import process runs quickly. Even though inspections are carried out, the process remains fast,” Karding said after the signing of the cooperation agreement in Jakarta on Thursday (30/7/2026). He explained that the scope of the cooperation includes joint supervision of products, law enforcement for suspected violations, data integration between the two agencies, and human resource capacity building through joint training. Karding said that Barantin and BPJPH data will be mutually accessible to strengthen the verification process, including for imported products that already have halal certification from their country of origin. “Our data can be checked directly by BPJPH, and vice versa. For example, if there is a product imported from abroad that is declared halal in its country of origin, we do not immediately trust it. Besides being inspected by quarantine, we also ensure it is truly halal,” he said. He confirmed that the cooperation maintains the smooth flow of trade. Through inter-agency coordination, the service process is expected to proceed faster without adding inspection time for business actors.
