Barantin and BPJPH Destroy 312 Tonnes of Pork-Contaminated Meat and Bone Meal

The National Quarantine Agency (Barantin), the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), and the Ministry of Agriculture have destroyed 312 tonnes of meat and bone meal containing porcine material imported from Brazil. The destruction was carried out in Klapanunggal, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday (22/7/2026).

Barantin Head Abdul Kadir Karding stated that the material is typically used as an ingredient in animal feed. He emphasised that poultry feed must be free from disease, safe, and halal. ‘If this feed is given to poultry, the meat and eggs will eventually circulate to the public. Feed containing pork must not be allowed to circulate,’ he said.

The destruction was conducted in accordance with Government Regulation and Minister of Agriculture Regulation Article 25F of 2019, which prohibits the entry of feed materials containing pork into Indonesia. ‘We are grateful that today we can affirm that the state must not be defeated or negligent on two matters: first, the material must not carry diseases or pests, and second, it must be halal,’ Karding added.

He stressed that there is zero tolerance for such violations and warned that his agency will not hesitate to take enforcement action. ‘In fact, the halal certificate from Brazil and the health certificate were present, meaning the product should not have contained any porcine mixture,’ he noted.

BPJPH Head Haikal Hassan Baras commended Barantin’s action, describing the destruction as an effort to protect consumers. ‘When we checked the documents, there was a halal certificate, and the sacks were labelled free from pork. This means it was a deliberate crime and a serious violation,’ he said. He added that the agencies have also taken steps to prevent similar goods from entering Indonesia in the future. ‘This action is a tangible form of excellent collaboration. We will maintain this cooperation,’ he concluded.
