Bappisus Chief Reveals Prabowo's Reasons for Forming Universitas Republik Indonesia

Head of the Development Control and Special Investigation Agency (Bappisus) Aris Marsudiyanto has revealed the reason President Prabowo Subianto established Universitas Republik Indonesia (URI). He said Prabowo wants to create a smart golden generation. “The President is also concerned about how to create a smart generation, a golden generation, to welcome Indonesia 2045. It is impossible for us to have such abundant natural wealth but low-quality human resources,” Aris said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday (23/7/2026). Aris said Prabowo will focus on promoting campuses based on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). According to him, URI will be directed towards this. “Therefore, the President is focusing on promoting a university based on STEM, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Thus, this nation will master its own technology. And our natural resources are complete, all available,” he said. However, Aris stressed that the educational institution will not only provide study programmes in the STEM field. “There are various, one of the focuses is there, but there will also be many other study programmes,” he said. It is known that Prabowo inaugurated URI Governor Donny Ermawan and Deputy Governor Yos Sunitiyoso at the Palace on Thursday (23/7). Donny Ermawan explained that his institution’s task is to prepare future leader candidates. Donny said URI will lead three educational bodies under it. “So the President is very concerned about human resources, especially for Indonesia’s future leaders. He wants education at the elementary, junior high, senior high, university, and government levels. He wants to consolidate and integrate several existing educational systems,” Donny said at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/7).
