Bappenas urges Papua to utilise development 'knowledge hub'

Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) is encouraging the Papua regional governments to utilise the Papua Development Acceleration Information System (SIPPP) as a knowledge hub for Papua’s development.

“I invite all ministries, agencies, and regional governments to make use of SIPPP as a joint platform,” said Deputy Minister of PPN/Deputy Head of Bappenas Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard during a strategic dialogue between the Deputy Minister and the governors and regents/mayors across the Land of Papua, monitored online from Jakarta on Thursday.

He said the platform contains integrated data, enabling more effective coordination and better monitoring of the implementation of the Papua Development Acceleration Action Plan (RAPPP).

As a result, Febrian continued, the policies produced will be better targeted.

According to Febrian, the success of the RAPPP will not be determined by a single institution. He stressed that its success depends on the ability of all elements of government, society, academics, the business community, and all development partners to work together.

“All development programmes must also be implemented in a transparent, accountable, effective, and efficient manner, and oriented towards improving welfare, particularly for indigenous Papuans,” Febrian said.

He asked the Papua regional governments to ensure that every funded programme is consistent with the RAPPP, recorded in the SIPPP, and implemented in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.

In addition, Febrian emphasised that every programme must be accountable in a transparent and accountable way.

“There must be no programmes running outside the planning documents that have been agreed upon, because that would not only reduce development effectiveness but also potentially create governance problems in the future,” Febrian said.
