Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for National Development Planning/Deputy Head of the National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard has emphasised the need for a paradigm shift in national development, moving from research oriented towards publications to research that provides real impacts for society. “And this is not merely a change in terminology, but a change in mindset and way of working,” Febrian stated at the Australia-Indonesia Research, Science, and Innovation Collaboration Forum (KONEKSI) in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to him, one of the main challenges has been the gap between the research world and policy. He noted that many research outcomes stop at publications and have not yet transformed into implementable programmes or decisions on the ground. Through KONEKSI, Febrian conveyed that the government is striving to bridge this gap by building an ecosystem that brings together government, academics, industry, communities, and media. This ecosystem is expected to ensure that research truly provides concrete solutions for society. He stressed that development planning must be evidence-based and supported by science, as well as capable of translating ideas into effective policies on the ground. Furthermore, he assessed that the Indonesia-Australia partnership in KONEKSI reflects the importance of cross-country collaboration in addressing increasingly complex global challenges. “Answers to global challenges cannot come from one country alone, but from collaboration, trust, and willingness to learn from each other,” he said. In addition, Febrian also encouraged knowledge not to be exclusive or concentrated in big cities, but to be present in the regions and relevant to local needs. In supporting this paradigm shift, Bappenas emphasises three main steps: strengthening connections between researchers and policymakers, improving mechanisms for translating research results into applicable policies, and ensuring the sustainability of the Indonesia-Australia partnership through KONEKSI. Febrian added that KONEKSI is a long-term investment, not only financially but also in enhancing the quality of thinking. He hopes that every research produced can serve as the basis for real policies and programmes that drive national resilience as well as more inclusive and influential economic growth.
