“Implementation of IYB can strengthen collaboration, support transparency, enhance competitiveness, support sustainable production systems, and contribute to achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision,” said Leonardo A. A. Teguh Sambodo, Deputy for Food, Natural Resources, and Environment at Bappenas. “Sustainability is now a critical factor in national development, including boosting Indonesia’s commodity competitiveness in global markets,” he added during the National Socialisation and Dissemination of the Sustainable Jurisdictional Indicators (IYB) Platform event.

IYB is a national instrument designed to support sustainable development governance at regional (regency/province) levels. Through IYB, Indonesia demonstrates that economic growth and environmental sustainability can progress hand in hand.

The socialisation and dissemination of the IYB platform form part of efforts to strengthen sustainable plantation commodity governance through integrated jurisdictional approaches, aligning with national development directions in the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025-2045 and National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029.

“IYB is expected to serve as a synchronisation instrument for sustainable governance, strengthen jurisdiction-based monitoring systems, improve data transparency, and support environmentally friendly production systems,” said Bappenas Food and Agriculture Director Jarot Indarto.

GIZ Indonesia Representative Karin Allgoewer noted sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity in global trade systems increasingly demanding supply chain transparency and traceability.

Through multi-stakeholder discussions, stakeholders highlighted the importance of interoperability and cross-sector data integration, strengthening regional and smallholder capacities, harmonising sustainability policies, and inter-stakeholder collaboration to support IYB implementation.

Furthermore, IYB aims to strengthen sustainable plantation governance, improve market access, and support the development of transparent, inclusive, and competitive production systems.
