Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) is strengthening coordination with the Health Social Security Organising Agency (BPJS) Health to enhance the effectiveness of the national health insurance system through the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme in Indonesia.

“The government must ensure that the basic rights of the people are fulfilled. Why must every country be healthy? Because health is the source of productivity. Healthy people are productive, whereas sick people certainly have reduced productivity. If a country’s productivity declines, that country will not be able to achieve optimal development conditions,” said Minister of PPN/Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy when receiving the Director General of BPJS Health Prihati Pujowaskito to discuss strengthening the sustainability of the JKN programme.

In a written statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, Rachmat said that BPJS Health is one of the institutions that must be taken seriously.

Cooperation between the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas and BPJS Health has been established through a cooperation agreement signed in September 2025, which remains the basis for coordination in data utilisation and strengthening JKN policies, he stated.

BPJS Health is also preparing several strategic steps to strengthen services and programme sustainability, including through a participant-needs-focused service approach and technology enhancement.

The Minister of PPN responded to structural challenges in the health insurance system, particularly regarding the mismatch between contributions and healthcare service financing burdens.

“This mismatch needs to be addressed carefully and solutions sought immediately,” said Rachmat Pambudy.

He also encouraged BPJS Health’s board of directors to strengthen teamwork and exemplary leadership in carrying out their duties, so that various challenges in the national health insurance system can be overcome gradually.
