Bappenas: Strengthening Central-Regional Synergy to Accelerate Growth
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Rachmat Pambudy, hopes for the strengthening of synergy between the central and regional governments to maintain economic growth momentum while accelerating the growth target towards 8 per cent by 2029.
“To maintain the momentum of regional economic growth, we need to ensure that planning does not stop at targets, but is followed by Work Plans and Action Plans,” he stated during the Coordination Meeting for Regional Inflation Control and the Release of Regency/City Economic Growth for the Second Quarter of 202_ [Note: Source text says 2026], as quoted from an official Bappenas statement in Jakarta on Monday.
It is recorded that the Indonesian economy grew by 5.61 per cent in the first quarter of 2026 and reached 5.45 per cent in the first semester of 2026. The government targets growth of approximately 6 per cent in 2026 as part of the acceleration towards 8 per cent by 2029.
According to the Minister of PPN, achieving this target is inseparable from regional economic performance, as national growth is an aggregation of provincial growth.
To this end, he continued, 2026 is directed to serve as a foundation through the monitoring of regional economic performance, consistency in programmes and activities, and the improvement of spending quality. This step will be followed by acceleration in 2027 to strengthen the growth momentum towards the target in 2029.
“Growth monitoring is conducted through a cycle of monitoring, guarding, and acceleration. The government needs to read economic trends and signals of slowdown, identify obstacles, and ensure that concrete interventions and policy support can be implemented immediately,” said the Head of Bappenas.
In its implementation, regional governments are encouraged to optimise the potential of leading sectors, expand the economic base, and increase productive spending through the Regional Budget (APBD). These efforts include accelerating the realisation of the APBD and Special Autonomy Funds (Otsus), resolving licensing and bureaucratic hurdles, strengthening connectivity and logistics, as well as supporting leading sectors and monitoring prices and markets.
The Ministry of PPN/Bappenas is also encouraging the mapping of growth sources, the identification of potential sectors and strategic projects, the debottlenecking of investment, and monitoring through early warning indicators and periodic evaluations. Synergy between the Ministry of PPN/Bappens, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Central Bureau of Statistics, ministries/agencies, and regional governments is required so that policies, programmes, funding, and implementation run in alignment.
“With strong synergy, targeted policies, and concrete interventions, I am optimistic that the economic growth target towards 8 per cent can be achieved,” he expressed.
