Bappenas: Museum and Language Monument Can Become a Tourist Destination
Tanjungpinang (ANTARA) - Deputy for Regional Development at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas RI, Medrilzam, stated that the construction of the Museum and Language Monument on Penyengat Island, Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands, has great potential to become a historical tourism destination.
According to him, this potential will be even stronger once the museum and monument are completed. Their presence is believed to be able to attract tourists from both within the country and abroad.
“Penyengat Island has enormous potential for historical and cultural tourism,” he said during a visit to Penyengat Island, Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands (Kepri), on Friday.
Medrilzam stated that Bappenas will continue to encourage the realisation of the Museum and Language Monument construction on this historic island.
This is inseparable from the historical value of the Penyengat area, including its connection to the birth of the Indonesian language from this small island.
“We hope this advantage can attract foreign tourists, especially if there are international-scale events,” he said.
“If visiting Kepri, it would be a pity not to go to Penyengat. In my opinion, this could become a unique magnet,” he added.
Meanwhile, Riau Islands Governor Ansar Ahmad said the groundbreaking for the Museum and Language Monument is planned for June 2026.
“We are currently awaiting the construction management tender. It is estimated that by June it will already be underway,” he said.
Ansar added that the presence of the museum and monument is expected to become a new attraction for tourists visiting Kepri, particularly Tanjungpinang.
With the high number of tourists arriving, it will certainly impact growth and economic circulation in Tanjungpinang, especially on Penyengat Island.
