Bappenas Minister Urges Police to Use AI in Solving Criminal Cases

National Development Planning Minister (Bappenas) Rachmat Pambudy has urged the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to begin utilising artificial intelligence (AI) to investigate cases. The use of such technology will make it easier for the police to take action. “I have said that with artificial intelligence, the police can easily take action,” he stated while speaking at a Polri Education and Training Institution seminar in Lembang, West Bandung Regency, on Friday (19/6/2026). He cited examples of other countries that have managed to solve criminal cases from 20 years ago with the help of data and artificial intelligence. The cases were solved properly, accurately, and with precision. The Bappenas Minister added that National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo noted that 230 million people in Indonesia use the internet. Given this situation, law enforcement officers must not only understand the internet but also the current condition of society. “I was very impressed by one of the senior Polri officials who stated that the police must know the community better. If the police know the surrounding community, right down to the lowest levels, then the police will certainly be closer to the hearts of the people,” he said.
