Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Rachmat Pambudy, hopes that the updated Regional Competitiveness Index (IDSD) will serve as a reflection of the welfare of communities in the regions.

“I hope that the Head of BRIN ensures that this index also reflects the welfare of communities in the regions. So, it’s not just an index, because an index is a number, but it also reflects the welfare of the people,” said Rachmat in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has just released the 2025 Regional Competitiveness Index (IDSD), which serves as a basis for regions to improve their respective competitiveness.

The IDSD is measured using indicators, most of which are obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). These indicators are used to measure four components of competitiveness, namely the supporting environment, human resources, the market, and the innovation ecosystem. This can serve as a guide for regional heads to understand the position and direction of regional development.

The Head of Bappenas appreciates BRIN for updating the IDSD. “This is important because it serves as a reflection of the national competitiveness index as a first step towards Golden Indonesia 2045.”

The Head of BRIN, Arif Satria, said that the agency he leads continues to measure the competitiveness index at the regional level, which then becomes one of the compasses for improving regional competitiveness.

Through the IDSD score, regional governments can see their level of competitiveness as a basis for improving policies and efforts to promote sustainable development.

“So, once again, the index is not just about improving the score, but we hope that this index can have an impact on the changes and transformations carried out by regional heads, especially in various fields, particularly in the economic field,” said Arif.

Therefore, BRIN has a role to play in encouraging regional innovation to become even stronger, together with the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) and the Regional Development Planning, Research and Innovation Agency (Bapperida), which now exist in many regions. In this way, the regions can become even stronger in providing added value to create a research and innovation ecosystem, he affirmed.

“The growth of research and innovation will be a strength for Indonesia in the future, because Indonesia is expected to be among the top four countries in the world by 2050. There is no other way than to strengthen human capital and innovation,” he said.

With the release of the index, he hopes that regions will be even more enthusiastic about continuing to improve their respective indices through various policy measures and development programs. BRIN ensures that it will rely on various universities so that the existing innovations and technologies can strengthen the regional economy.

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto, also said that the Ministry of Home Affairs will always coordinate with BRIN in providing technical assistance related to innovation in the regions.

“This innovation is not just a competition, but it must be integrated from planning, budgeting, to evaluation. This will certainly require co-creation and the involvement of many parties,” said Bima.
