Bappenas clarifies

With reference to the article in Media Indonesia on Sept 5,
1995, entitled : Test TOEFL di Bappenas mengecewakan (TOEFL test
in Bappenas disappointing) we would like to clarify the matter.

* The test was held to select would-be scholarship receivers
under OTO Bappenas (overseas training program of the National
Development Planning Board). But because of the big demand for
Test of Academic Potential and TOEFL, we provide opportunities to
the public, including those from the outer regions to take the
test.

* The Rp 45,000 fee collected from each participant for the
TOEFL test can be broken down as follows: The test book costs Rp
38,000. the remaining Rp 7,000 is used for hiring the room, sound
system, supervision fees and for sending back the test results.

* The sound system was checked twice, a day before the test
and a few moments before the test. We found that the sound system
was OK. Prior to the test, participants were consulted on the
quality of the sound system, and they had no problem.

* However, we would like to thank the writer. We would like to
assure the public that we will have a better way of selecting
potential applicants in the future.
