Bappenas Chief Trusts Purbaya as Finance Minister, Cites Unexpected Reason

Minister of National Development Planning Rachmat Pambudy has expressed his trust in Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa to continue safeguarding the resilience of the Indonesian economy while driving faster growth. He emphasised that confidence in a finance minister is critically important, as losing it would cause the world to lose faith in Indonesia’s economy.

He made these remarks while speaking before senators during a working meeting with Committee IV of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) on Monday (22/6/2026).

"Thank you for the praise given to my colleague, the Finance Minister. Because if the Finance Minister is not trusted, our economy will not be trusted," Rachmat said at the DPD Building in Jakarta. "And therefore, to the DPD leadership, thank you for the trust placed in Mr Purbaya," he stressed.

Personally, Rachmat affirmed that he greatly respects Purbaya as the finance minister in the Red and White Cabinet of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. He revealed that he is already aware of Purbaya’s strategy and thinking in pushing for faster Indonesian economic growth.

"Why do I trust Mr Purbaya? Because I know his thoughts, I already know his strategy, and as it happens, his parents were my teachers," Rachmat stated.

He therefore stressed that there is no need to compare the performance of the current finance minister with those who have served previously. "But I myself greatly respect the minister. Mr. Purbaya is someone we have known for a long time, and I have complete faith in him," Rachmat said. "Please do not compare him with the previous finance minister, because I also trusted the previous finance minister, but every era has its people, and every person has their era," he asserted.
