Bappenas Chief: Students Must Develop Leadership Capacity
The Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappens), Rachmat Pambudy, stated that students must develop leadership capacity and a dedication to community service.
“What we expect from you is to carry on the ideals of the nation’s founders. If that spirit is absent, it is all over. Students do not learn from books forever. Students must also be active in organisations, become leaders among their peers, and demonstrate exemplary behaviour. A leader is someone who leads by example. If one cannot provide an example, they are not a leader,” he said during an audience with the Central Board of the Indonesian Hindu Dharma Student Union (KMHDI), led by KMHDI Chairperson Wayan Ardhi Adyana, in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday.
Furthermore, Minister Rachmat Pambudy emphasised that development must be oriented towards resolving various fundamental issues still facing the nation, such as poverty, inequality, injustice, and limited employment opportunities. These efforts are to be carried out with the government as the primary driver, supported by the community and the younger generation.
“Development must be inclusive. No one should be left behind. Small groups must also receive equal attention. This principle must not merely be a slogan, but must be realised through real work and policies that provide tangible benefits to the community,” he said.
During the meeting, Wayan presented various organisational programmes focusing on regeneration, strengthening the capacity of Hindu students, talent development, education, social activities, and community empowerment.
Wayan also outlined several strategic programmes currently being implemented, including the development of KMHDI activity centres, education and scholarship programmes, strengthening cooperation with Hindu religious universities, and the development of assisted villages as spaces for implementing community service for members.
The audience served as a momentum to strengthen collaboration between the government and student organisations in driving the development of superior, characterised, and competitive Indonesian human capital, while simultaneously supporting the realisation of inclusive and sustainable development.
