Lessons from MotoGP Mandalika demonstrate the importance of developing an integrated sports industry ecosystem, stated the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, Rachmat Pambudy, in Jakarta on Wednesday during the launch of the book “MotoGP Mandalika 2025: Accelerating Economy, Image, and Tourism.”

According to the newly released book, the economic impact of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2025 is estimated to reach approximately Rp2.7–4.7 trillion. These findings serve as the foundation for developing policies regarding sport tourism and the national sports industry.

“The potential of the sports industry has not yet been fully converted into added value, investment, and domestic employment. The ecosystem remains fragmented, ranging from data, products, industry, and human resources to the utilisation of sports infrastructure,” he said.

He added that the estimated economic impact generated by the MotoGP Mandalika event includes direct, indirect, and induced impacts. MotoGP Mandalika also supports the creation of tens of thousands of job opportunities during the preparation and implementation stages, benefiting the tourism sector, MSMEs, transport, accommodation, the creative economy, and the community in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

From a promotional perspective, global media exposure generated an Advertising Value Equivalency (AVE) of 361.6 million euros, or approximately Rp6.9 trillion, reflecting the promotional value of Indonesia and Mandalika.

The Ministry of PPN/Bappenas and ITDC conducted a survey during MotoGP Mandalika 2025 involving over 1,800 respondents, including domestic spectators, international tourists, MSME players, workers, and sponsors. The spectator experience score (brand equity) reached 5.07 on a scale of 6.

The survey also indicated an intention among tourists to return to Indonesia. Studies estimate that increased exposure to Mandalika has the potential to increase tourist visits by approximately 11 per cent, provided it is supported by integrated destination promotion.
