Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas), together with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), have committed to strengthening the ecosystem for nurturing national research and innovation talent to ensure it becomes more connected, sustainable, and provides a tangible contribution to development.

As the Chair of the National Talent Management Task Force, the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas plays a role in orchestrating policies and programmes across ministries, agencies, local governments, universities, research institutions, the business and industrial sectors, and development partners. This ensures that the development of research and innovation talent is well-directed, data-driven, and connected to national development requirements.

“The current challenge in talent development is not merely finding the best individuals, but ensuring there are no broken links in the talent’s journey from potential to contribution,” said the Deputy for Human Development and Culture at the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, Pungkas Bahjuri Ali, in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

During the Indonesia Research and Innovation Fair (IRIFair) 2026 Road to Talent Fest for National Talent Management in Research and Innovation, Bappenas noted that within the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the development of National Talent Management (MTN) is a key part of the agenda for human resources, science, technology, and innovation.

According to Pungkas, National Talent Management must ensure that the talent journey is continuous, ranging from identification, coaching, and competency and expertise development, to opening opportunities for talent to produce research and innovation that benefits development.

“Therefore, what we are building is not just a collection of programmes, but an ecosystem that connects talent with education, research facilities, networks, funding, the business and industrial sectors, and career development opportunities,” said Punctas.

The Head of BRIN, Arif Satria, also stated that the development of research talent must be undertaken as a long-term process, from the moment potential is identified until the talent is capable of producing contributions to national development.
