Bappenas: Accelerating Digitalisation to Boost Indonesia's Digital Economy
The Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) has emphasised the importance of accelerating the digitalisation of various industrial sectors to achieve the target contribution of the digital economy to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2029.
Speaking in Jakarta on Tuesday, Rolly Rochmad Purnomo, Secretary of the Deputy for Economy and Digital Transformation at the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, stated that the government has set a target for the digital economy’s contribution to GDP to reach 12-13 per cent within the next three years.
“We certainly need to continue accelerating the growth of the domestic digital ecosystem, considering the target for the digital economy’s GDP contribution in 2029 is 12-13 per cent,” said Rolly.
He cited the creative industry as one of the sectors currently being prioritised for digital acceleration. According to shared data, the digital economy currently contributes 6.8 per cent to the national GDP.
“With a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) equivalent to Rp1,645 trillion (2025), the digital sector is no longer a supplementary industry, but a main pillar of the national economy,” he added.
Referring to the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) for 2025-2045, Rolly noted that digital transformation plays a highly strategic role as a driver for both economic transformation and the transformation of government governance.
