Bapera DKI Urges Cadres to Support Provincial Government Through Social Activities
The Jakarta branch of Barisan Pemuda Nusantara (Bapera) has declared its readiness to partner with the Jakarta Provincial Government in tackling various community issues, including assisting residents during disasters. The organisation believes its social role needs to be strengthened through activities that provide direct benefits to the capital’s residents.
The commitment was conveyed by Basri Baco, Chairman of the Bapera DKI Jakarta Regional Leadership Council, while opening the organisation’s Regional Working Meeting at the DPD Golkar DKI Jakarta hall on Jalan Pegangsaan Barat, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (15/8/2026). The meeting, themed ‘Youth Moving Towards a New Era of Jakarta’, was also attended by Bapera Central Executive Board Chairman Fahd El Fouz A Rafiq and Head of the Jakarta Provincial National Unity and Political Agency, Muhamad Matsani.
Basri stated that Bapera needs to have activities that provide direct benefits to the community. He said this service can be realised through social activities, including helping residents affected by disasters. ‘This is what makes us somewhat unique, and indeed the chairman’s spirit in building this organisation is service to the community, so wherever we are, there must be a function and use for the community,’ Basri told the cadres.
According to Basri, assistance to disaster-affected communities does not always have to be large in scale. Simple assistance provided when needed can still help ease the burden on residents. He said this social role also needs to go hand in hand with the partnership between Bapera and the Jakarta Provincial Government. Therefore, he asked cadres to maintain communication with the regional government and avoid actions that could disrupt governance.
The Deputy Speaker of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives asked Bapera cadres to translate this partnership into activities that can help the community and support regional government programmes. On the other hand, Basri asked the organisation to remain independent in carrying out its activities. Management and cadres are not allowed to make the regional government or local officials a source of funding for Bapera activities. ‘Every activity must be independent, no proposals may be submitted. What is allowed is internal, namely maximising the potential of Bapera’s internal cadres, for example the General Treasurer,’ he said.
Basri also reminded cadres not to use the Bapera name to earn income through activities such as becoming parking attendants or guarding land and shophouses. According to him, the organisation must maintain its image as a community organisation and not fall into thuggish practices.
Bapera Central Executive Board Chairman Fahd El Fouz A Rafiq assessed that Basri Baco’s leadership has expanded Bapera DKI Jakarta’s organisational structure down to the sub-district and urban village levels. Fahd said this structural strengthening is also an asset for the organisation to prepare cadres who can take on roles in the public sphere, including in local politics. ‘Mr Basri Baco was also able to help deliver Golkar’s seat count in the Jakarta DPRD, from initially six people to 10 people in the 2024 legislative election,’ Fahd said.
Basri previously also targeted that every electoral district in Jakarta should have Bapera cadres ready to run as candidates for the Jakarta DPRD. This target will be prepared through strengthening the organisational structure.
Head of the Jakarta Provincial National Unity and Political Agency, Muhamad Matsani, appreciated Bapera’s presence in the capital. According to him, the involvement of community organisations is needed to maintain social relations and support Jakarta’s development. ‘Bapera has a strategic position in maintaining Jakarta’s social harmony, is able to build healthy communication and has a spirit of mutual cooperation,’ he said.
